Overview

Hyperic is an enterprise network management and monitoring platform developed under open source and enterprise model. Hyperic features can be listed as,  automatic discovery of software and network resources; automatic reporting of the key indicators of application health and well-being; a rich database of software inventory and its operating history; remote control and administration of software resources; alerting, notification, escalation, and corrective action; and facilities for analysis, visualization, and reporting. RapidOSS Hyperic plugin consolidates alerts and inventory data from Hyperic and enables users to access performance graphs and the alerts through the RapidOSS UI seamlessly. 

 
RapidOSS integrates with Hyperic through HTTP. HQU Plugin Framework allows RapidOSS to fetch required data from Hyperic periodically with RapidOSS's connector mechanism.

 
RapidOSS uses a built-in CMDB to model the IT infrastructure components. Default RapidOSS model is extended to accommodate the data available in Hyperic, using class and property names that are consistent with ones used in Hyperic. The provided model can serve as a template and a starting point, and can be easily extended to include other classes, information from other sources, etc.

Using RapidOSS Hyperic plugin, it is possible to access the inventory data, alerts, and performance graphs from Hyperic within minutes. The plugin is designed to integrate with Hyperic with no impact on the Hyperic installation. The plugin does not require any configuration changes or restart of the Hyperic server.

Inventory 

The platforms, interfaces and services discovered by Hyperic are retrieved from Hyperic and used to create objects in RapidOSS CMDB. Out of the box, these objects are populated with the data available in Hyperic, however can easily be enriched with data from other sources (files, databases, other management systems, etc.). Extending the model is also a straighforward exercise.

Status 

Hyperic plugin retrieves status (Availability) information of platforms, servers or services periodically with RapidOSS connector mechanism.  

Alerts 

Hyperic alerts are retrieved periodically and event objects (alerts are events in RapidOSS terminology) are created in RapidOSS. Events are never removed from RapidOSS providing access to not only real-time, but also historical events.

Graphs

Hyperic plugin calculates available metrics in runtime and provide links to the graphs in object detail pages by default.
